Instructions
Outboard Motor Flush Method:
Preparation:
- Ensure your outboard motor is in a vertical position.
- Connect the garden hose to the Captain’s Musket (Garden Hose Foam & Flush Gun).
- Ensure the motor is off and cool before starting the flush process.
Mixing the Solution:
- Fill the Captain’s Musket reservoir with Outboard & PWC Engine Flush Detergent, following the recommended dilution ratio on the bottle.
Attaching the Flush Kit:
- Attach the Captain’s Musket to the flushing port on the outboard motor, typically located near the lower unit. If your motor has muffs, use them to connect the water source.
Flushing the Engine:
- Turn on the water source at the Captain’s Musket by moving the crank handle to the middle setting, which is water only, before starting the engine.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.
- Switch the Captain’s Musket crank handle to forward to activate the flush solution. Do not rev the engine during this process.
- Allow the engine to run for 5-10 minutes to fully flush out salt, dirt, and other debris. Follow your manufacturer’s recommended flush time for the best results.
Shutting Down:
- Turn off the engine before turning off the water.
- Disconnect the Captain’s Musket from the motor and allow the engine to drain fully.
- Final Steps:
- Inspect the engine for any remaining water droplets or salt deposits. Wipe it down with a clean cloth for added protection.
PWC (Personal Watercraft) Flush Method:
Preparation:
- Ensure your PWC is on a trailer or lift, with the engine turned off.
- Connect the garden hose to the Captain’s Musket (Garden Hose Foam & Flush Gun).
- Ensure the PWC engine is cool before starting the flush process.
Mixing the Solution:
- Fill the Captain’s Musket reservoir with Outboard & PWC Engine Flush Detergent, following the recommended dilution ratio on the bottle.
Attaching the Flush Kit:
- Locate the flush port on your PWC (usually found at the rear or on the side of the craft).
- Attach the garden hose securely to the flush port.
Flushing the Engine:
- Start the PWC engine before turning on the water source.
- Move quickly to the Captain’s Musket and shift the crank handle all the way forward to the soap mix setting, allowing the flush solution to circulate through the cooling system for 2-3 minutes. Do not exceed this time, as PWC engines should not run for extended periods without being in the water. (Check your manufacturer’s recommended flush times.)
Shutting Down:
- Shift the crank handle of the Captain’s Musket to off first, before turning off the PWC engine.
- Detach the hose and flush kit, making sure to drain any excess water from the cooling system.
- Final Steps:
- Wipe down the exterior of the PWC with a clean towel to remove any remaining water spots or salt residue.
Additional Applications:
- For rods, reels, trailers, and other equipment, spray or soak with Outboard & PWC Engine Flush Detergent and rinse thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt and prevent corrosion.
These methods ensure that your outboard motor and PWC are thoroughly cleaned and protected from corrosion, extending the life of your equipment and keeping them in optimal condition.

Use my salty captain every trip. So much easier than the brush and bucket. Love seeing the foamy soap. Makes you feel you’re getting it clean. And you do. Had a small problem with my musket. They stepped up and got it fixed. Good product, good company.
